iPhone joins Twitter bandwagon

Twitter LogoTwitter seems to be on a roll, the Twitter application was announced for BlackBerry, and now comes the news of its acquisition of Tweetie for the iPhone. According to the Official Twitter Blog, mobile devices have always been the centre of attention for Twitter. They want to expand the accessibility and reach of Twitter to users without causing any confusion or friction whatsoever.

The Blog further reveals that, Twitter has entered into an agreement with Atebits (aka Loren Brichter) to acquire Tweetie, a leading iPhone Twitter client. According to an analysis of the Twitter user experience in the iTunes AppStore, people were looking for applications from Twitter but could not find any. This led to confusion and finally ignorance. However, with this announcement, Twitter is looking forward to make its presence felt on all leading mobile platforms.

Tweetie is to be rechristened as Twitter for iPhone and will be available at the iTunes App Store for free in the coming weeks.
