Sprint and Samsung go green with new Samsung Restore

Sprint and Samsung have announced their support to save the planet by launching the eco-friendly Samsung Restore. The phone is the second green mobile device launched by Samsung. It features the highly acclaimed Sprint One Click customizable user interface and provides users with the perfect combination of technology and environment-friendly design.

For Sprint, Restore is their third eco-friendly phone and joins a host of green accessories and programs already designed by the company. Restore’s predecessor, Samsung Reclaim was the first phone to have been made with almost 80 percent biodegradable waste and appears to have been appreciated by users as well.

Sprint Senior Vice President, Product Development , Kevin Packingham, remarked on this feat by saying that, “Samsung Restore qualifies for the Sprint Eco-Logo and builds on Sprint’s commitment to leading the wireless industry in environmental responsibility. We had great success with our first eco-friendly device, Samsung Reclaim, and have found that consumers want eco-friendly devices without sacrificing technology. Restore provides both and continues Sprint’s great environmental commitment and legacy.”

Omar Khan, Chief Strategy officer, Samsung Mobile commented on the phone by saying that, “Samsung Restore follows the success of Samsung Reclaim, our first eco-friendly device with Sprint. Restore builds on Samsung’s overall commitment to the environment, which includes developing devices with eco-friendly components, including casings, reduced and recyclable packaging and Energy Star qualified chargers. Restore offers users an impressive feature set and stylish design ideal for multiple messaging capabilities.”

The eco-friendly phone mainly focuses on messaging functionalities. It offers users a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard with an optical joystick. It sports a 2MP camera with camcorder to click pictures and capture videos. The phone already comes with a 2GB memory card and a miscroSD slot that supports up to 32GB of data users can load all their favorite MP3 tracks and enjoy them via the built-in MP3 player. Other features include stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, access to Sprint Family Locator, Sprint Football Live, Sprint Navigation and Sprint TV. Users can not only text, but also send mails through the phone to keep in touch with their near and dear ones.

Restore has been designed with environmentally safe components. The outer case consists of about 27 percent post-consumer recycled products, whereas the entire handset is approximately 84 percent recyclable. The designing is in accordance with the strict RoHS standards and contains extremely low levels of environmentally hazardous elements like PVC, BFRs, Phthalates and Beryllium. The device can be charged with the Energy Star Version 2.0 qualified energy efficient charger (level V) and keeps standby power loss less than 30mW.

Not only the hardware but even the packaging for the device is eco-friendly with the cardboard box being manufactured from 70 percent post consumer material and printed with soy ink. The manual that usually accompanies the device has made way for an e-manual that users can access after the launch of the phone. Moreover, the One Click Green Tile on the phone, gives users access to an entire collection of green, earth-friendly information and tips, inclusive of Best of Green, a well-rounded collection of information to inspire a greener lifestyle, and Planet Green to help make life a little greener. The song, Mother Earth has been pre-installed as the default ringer for the mobile phone. Apart from this, the device also includes eco-oriented ringers and screensavers.

Samsung Restore will be made available coming summer at all Sprint retail channels inclusive of Sprint Stores as well as online at sprint.com. Restore comes at a retail price of $49.99 with a new two year service agreement following a $50 mail-in rebate. Sprint’s $69.99 Everything Data 450 plan with Any Mobile, Anytime seems to go well with the Samsung Restore.
